Kevin Federline is pulling back the curtain on his life before, during and after his marriage to Britney Spears in a new memoir coming out this fall.
“This book is extremely intimate and transparent,” Federline, 47, said in a press release on Wednesday, August 6, of his upcoming release, You Thought You Knew.
He hinted that the book will touch upon his and Spears’ time together, saying, “I achieved my biggest dreams, dealt with crushing heartbreak and endured constant ridicule, all while becoming the father my children needed as they experienced nonstop emotional turbulence.”
Federline teased, “If you’ve ever had questions, you’ll find answers here.”
You Thought You Knew promises to highlight Federline’s “fame, fatherhood and the private cost of public life — from one of pop culture’s most misunderstood figures,” according to the press release.
The memoir will discuss Federline’s start in entertainment as a dancer for pop stars like Pink, Destiny’s Child and Michael Jackson and how his “highly publicized marriage — and eventual divorce” from Spears, 43, “changed everything,” per the press release. (Us Weekly reached out to Spears’ rep for comment about the book.)

The October 12 release will mark the first time that Federline has given fans an inside look at his life, including his relationship with Spears, to whom he was married from 2004 to 2007.
Federline was thrust into the limelight when he married Spears just months after meeting the Grammy winner at a club. The pair tied the knot that October and soon started a family. Spears and Federline welcomed their eldest son, Sean Preston, in September 2005 followed by son Jayden in September 2006.
Two months after Jayden’s birth, Spears filed for divorce in November 2006. Their divorce was finalized in July 2007, but their ups and downs didn’t stop there.
Over the past nearly two decades, Spears and Federline have feuded over custody and how to coparent their two sons, which Federline will seemingly discuss in his memoir.
The publisher revealed in Wednesday’s press release that the book will document “the painful reality of raising children under a microscope” that Federline allegedly experienced “all while trying to hold his family together.”
The memoir will also feature Federline’s experience trying to “navigate” the “weight of public opinion” following his and Spears’ divorce as well as “lasting emotional consequences of that spotlight,” per the press release.
Spears’ struggles with conservatorship, which affected her relationship with her kids, will also be discussed, according to the publisher. (Spears was under a 13-year conservatorship, during which her personal and financial affairs were run by her father and other people, after she publicly struggled with her and Federline’s divorce. The conservatorship ended in November 2021.)
“The public unraveling of Britney’s life and the constant attention around their family forced Kevin to balance being a father with being a protector,” the press release read.
Prior to his relationship with Spears, Federline dated Shar Jackson, with whom he shares daughter Kori, 23, and son Kaleb, 21. He married Victoria Prince in 2008, and they share two children: daughters Jordan, 13, and Peyton, 11.
Federline’s memoir will also serve as the debut release from Listenin, a new audio-first storytelling experience from Barracuda Baby Productions. In addition to hard copies of the book, fans can listen to it in Federline’s voice via Listenin.
You Thought You Knew will hit bookstores on October 21.
