Katy Perry just performed the hometown show on her Lifetimes Tour and she gave a passionate speech to the Los Angeles audience about how the city shaped both her life and career.

The pop star, 40, performed to a packed crowd at the Kia Forum on Tuesday night (July 15) with many special guests in attendance.

“You know it’s going to be a good show. You know this because I slept in my own bed! I ordered my favorite breakfast burrito from Dialog Cafe!” Katy told her fans at the beginning of her five-minute speech.

“What an honor and a privilege it is that you chose to spend your Tuesday night with me. A Tuesday, the most underappreciated night of the week and here we are packing out The Forum. I never take for granted that I get to do this for a living,” Katy said before pointing out all the venues she played in L.A. before this show.

“It has been eight years since I’ve been on a proper tour and some of you in this audience are literally eight years old tonight, so welcome to a real pop show, you tiny humans. This city is my favorite place to play because so many people that I love are all here tonight sending me all the love and I’m throwing that energy right back to you. Shout-out to my family, my best friends, my business partners, my ear-nose-and-throat doctor, my dog groomer, my gynecologist, welcome to the show,” Katy said.

Katy pointed out how her parents have the best seats in the house.

“I want to take this moment to say thank you for always covering my overdraft fees since I lived here. When I moved to L.A. at 17, especially that one time when I met up with some fancy friends at Chateau Marmont and I couldn’t afford the valet so I parked a mile away, joined them for dinner, ordered a side salad and a water, and then someone suggested that we split the bill. So naturally I went into that bathroom and I cried as my debit card was declined. But look at us now, mom and dad. We’re ordering appetizers, entrees, and desserts!” Katy said.

Katy talked about being signed and dropped by multiple record labels, singing vocals for Miley Cyrus, and living off of Trader Joe’s chicken fingers.

“No matter how hard it got, nothing could stop my dream. I didn’t care what people said about me then, and I don’t care now! Because I have and will always have the eye of the tiger. And somewhere along the way, I found another chosen family,” she said before listing off all her besties.

Katy then brought up how the gay community was there for her during the beginning of her career and she dedicated “I Kissed a Girl” to her LGBTQ fans.

You can catch Katy on the Lifetimes Tour through the end of the year!
