As expected, the newest Jurassic Park sequel did big business, though not as big as past installments. Jurassic World: Rebirth took in $91.5 million over the weekend, for a total of $147.3 million domestic since its opening on Wednesday afternoon. Its production budget is approximately $180 million, so it will have to bring in considerably more money to be profitable, and there is some stiff competition for box office dollars on the horizon in Superman and Fantastic Four.
F1: The Movie dropped 54% this weekend for a total take of $26 million, bringing the domestic box office take to $109.5 million in its second weekend of release. How to Train Your Dragon and Elio had smaller drops than F1, 45% and 44% respectively, but their takes were much lower at $11 million and $5.7 million. So far, HTTYD has made $224 million domestically, while Elio is floundering with a $55 million haul on a budget nearly triple that amount.
In fifth place this weekend was 28 Years Later with $4.6 million in its third weekend of release. Its domestic total box office of $60.2 million has pulled even with its estimated budget.
Megan 2.0 fell hard this weekend, bringing in only $3.8 million for an $18.6 million take total and a sixth place finish. Blumhouse has already said that even though it is flopping at the box office like several of their other recent releases, they won’t lose money after ancilliaries, because they keep budgets for their films fairly low.
