Held since 1877, the Wimbledon Championships have developed a reputation as a place to see and be seen. Unique for quirks like its grass court and ban on nighttime matches, its June-July schedule also guarantees a certain, um, glow from spectators, many of whom spend most of their days with creature comforts such as shade and air conditioning. Add to that the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s “smart-casual code,” which eschews athleisure in favor of suits and dresses, and you’ve got a prescription for some hot—in the literal sense—celebrities, as well as some unexpected groupings. For example, see the photo above for the matchup of John Cena and wife Shay Shariatzadeh, next to Foo Fighter Dave Grohl and Jordyn Blum. It’s a surreal pairing worthy of Peacemaker season 3.
Cate Blanchett took a seat between her mother, June Blanchett, and Rebel Wilson. The Australians were seated in the Royal Box, an invitation-only zone reserved for “British and overseas Royal Families … heads of government, people from the world of tennis, commercial partners, British armed forces, prominent media organisations, supporters of British tennis and other walks of life,” per Wimbledon’s website. As Blanchett played Queen Elizabeth I twice, her inclusion seemed inevitable.
Olivia Rodrigo was already in the UK for her set at Glastonbury, so it makes sense that she’d build a stop at Wimbledon into the trip, with her boyfriend, Paddington 2’s Louis Partridge, in tow.
Just next to Rodrigo and Partridge, erstwhile Howard Stark Dominic Cooper sat next to Priyanka Chopra Jones and husband Nick Jonas.
