• In what they’re calling a “default cancellation”, ABC is letting the cast options for Doctor Odyssey lapse on this coming Monday. This releases the actors to take on other projects. The crew of the show has already moved on to work on other Ryan Murphy-produced projects.
• Before upfronts last month Eric Schrier, President of Disney TV Studios, spoke about the fate of the show being in Ryan Murphy’s hands and new sources say that the decision was actually left to Murphy. He’s still weighing options as to where he may want to take the show next, and new deals with the cast could be made if the show ultimately does come back on ABC or Hulu.
• The show premiered to strong ratings, but they were not able to sustain momentum throughout its freshman run (speeding through the fizzy, sexy throuple plotline only to land on a boring, endless, accidental pregnancy plotline didn’t help matters). A mid-season crossover with it’s lead in show 9-1-1 and the finale lead to upticks in the ratings, but it wasn’t enough.
• The show was also the center of a sexual harassment lawsuit against Disney, filed by three crew members.
• Doc Odyssey‘s timeslot will be filled in the fall by the 9-1-1 spin-off, 9-1-1: Nashville which is currently filming its first season and is already being heavily promoted by the network.
