Billionaire asshat Jeff Bezos‘s Venice wedding plans with bride-to-be Lauren Sánchez were interrupted after activists threatened to flood the canals with inflatable crocodiles. Their wedding reception was originally supposed to take place in “Scuola Grande della Misericordia, a majestic 16th-century building in the city centre”, but the couple capitulated after activists threatened to block their guests’ entrance with the barrage of plastic predators.
The newly-relocated reception will take place in Arsenale, at an old series of shipyards, likely on Thursday. Authorities in Venice have increased security across the city, especially in their Jewish neighborhood—partially in response to the U.S. recently having joined the war between Israel and Iran. Ivanka Trump also landed in Venice on Tuesday, June 24th.
Anti-Bezos imagery has erupted across the city of Venice, including: “Greenpeace Italia and the British activist group Everyone Hates Elon (…) unfurling a huge banner in St Mark’s Square on Monday with a picture of Bezos laughing and a sign reading: ‘If you can rent Venice for your wedding you can pay more tax.'”
