Troian Bellisario is reflecting on one of the storylines from Pretty Little Liars and revealing how fan reactions changed it.
The 39-year-old actress spoke to The Hollywood Reporter recently to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Pretty Little Liars. During the interview, the cast reflected on one specific storyline.
According to Troian, Ezra and Aria’s relationship almost played out very differently.

During the interview, the cast was asked about a season 4 storyline in which Ezra, played by Ian Harding in the series, appeared to have been working with “A” to target the girls.
This storyline was later revealed to be a red herring and Ezra’s relationship with Aria, played by Lucy Hale, continued throughout the series.
When speaking to THR about this storyline, Troian said, “I was like, ‘Oh, cool, we’re finally going to see the end result of this, that it was a little bit of a grooming situation and that there is an inappropriateness to this relationship.’ But then it turned out just to be a red herring, and it was like, ‘No, we can’t have Ezra be a bad guy.’”
Troian also claimed during the interview that exploring how inappropriate their relationship was had been part of the plan initially, but that “the popularity of them as a couple” made the writers change their mind.
