Rachel Zegler kicked off her run in Evita in the West End revival at London Palladium last weekend!
The 23-year-old actress is back on stage in her second professional production for a limited 12-week run through September 6th, where she takes on the lead role of Eva Perón.
Every night, Rachel has started drawing huge crowds outside the theatre to watch her sing the show’s biggest musical number, “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina,” which she sings to the crowd from a balcony outside the theatre.

While viral videos earlier this month from rehearsals showed the moment, it was unsure if it was for a promo video or if it would be part of the production.
Rachel singing on the balcony has faced some backlash, as those who bought tickets to the show watch the moment from inside the theatre via a live stream video. However, many have also noted it works perfectly for that moment in the musical.
“Absolutely stunning idea and a beautiful symbol – while the rich sit inside the theatre watching from the screen, Evita is outside on the balcony of the theatre addressing all those who can’t afford to go to the theatre and/or are living on the streets of London,” one person shared on Twitter/X, via New York Post. “The whole idea of staging the song this way is truly incredible. Emotional. It says a lot, and I am here for it!”
Another agreed, writing, “Actually doing the balcony scene from evita on a balcony performing outside to the people who cant afford to see her perform is such a great decision from the director.”
Of the moment, What’s On Stage notes, “In the context of the show, the delivery totally makes sense. Following Perón’s election, Eva sings the song while addressing her adoring supporters from the balcony of the Presidential Palace, asserting that the people of her country are her true calling amidst the fame and glory.”
According to the publication, you can catch Rachel‘s balcony performance around 9pm each night.
