• Scarlett Johansson is back in Studio 8H to help the show cross the finish line on its milestone 50th season. It will be her seventh time hosting the show, having hosted for the first time in January 2006. She became a member of the Five-Timers club in March 2017, and her cameo count increased after 2017 when she began dating SNL writer and Weekend Update anchor Colin Jost. Her most recent appearance on the show was during a Mulaney Musical sketch on the SNL50 special.
• This will be Bad Bunny’s third time on the show as musical guest. He was also a part of the SNL50 festivities, having performed at the “Homecoming” concert in Radio City Music Hall and reuniting with Pedro Pascal and Marcello Hernandez in the Domingo sketch on the live show.
• As the landmark season draws to a close, many people are speculating about potential departures. The show is having fun with it, spoofing the speculation and guesses in the Walton Goggins promo last week and literally attempting to kill off Colin Jost in this week’s promo. One major departure has been confirmed: Stephen “Demo” DeMaria, the foreman who oversees the team of carpenters that builds sets for SNL every single week is retiring. DeMario has been working on the show, “since before the show even aired”, having helped build seats for the studio audience before the show launched in October 1975. He has helped build sets for nearly every episode of SNL for 50 years.
