    Britney Spears’ Iconic Sophomore Album Oops!… I Did It Again Turns 25

    The album that would essentially crown Britney Spears as the Princess of Pop is turning 25 years old…

    Oops!… I Did It Again sold 1.319 million copies in its first week of sales in the U.S. and would go on to sell over 20 million copies worldwide.

    Britney held the record for the highest first-week sales by a female artist. This record was held for 15 years until 2015 when 25 by Adele, sold over 3.38 million albums in the United States in its first week.

    Facts about Oops!
    – possible names for the album included Sunflower and Platinum 2000
    – Girl group Dream’s hit single He Loves U Not was originally written for Oops!, but she never recorded it
    Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know was co-written by Shania Twain and her then-husband
    – Britney received her first ever writing credit for Dear Diary

    To celebrate its greatness, Sony Music’s Legacy Recordings is set to release a 25th-anniversary edition Oops!… I Did It Again on special 2 disc vinyl Friday, May 16.
