The folk-pop artist and activist was best known for two 1995 singles: “I Kissed A Girl,” considered America’s first openly gay Top 20 hit, and “Supermodel” from the ‘Clueless’ soundtrack.
Sobule was 66.

Musician and activist Jill Sobule died in a house fire this morning in Minneapolis, MN. She was 66 years old.
The folk artist was best known for her 1995 hit “I Kissed a Girl”, but was also known for her contributions to the Clueless and Harriet the Spy soundtracks. She was still performing regularly, recently opening for the Fixx, and with a show scheduled for tomorrow night.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
