David Harbour has “never seen children cry” the way the ‘Stranger Things’ cast did reading the final episode.

David Harbour has opened up on the emotional Stranger Things finale

The 50-year-old actor – who has played Jim Hopper on Netflix’s hit sci-fi series since 2016 – is preparing for the fifth season to land on the streaming platform, and he’s promised plenty of tears.

He told E! News: “I will say, that final episode, we did a read through and I’ve never seen children cry the way – they’re not children anymore, but the way those young actors cried.

“And I think that you’ll be no different, because we all grew up together – I mean, I grew up in a different way – for those 10 years that we’ve been doing the show.”

David insisted the fifth and final season will be a befitting conclusion to ‘Stranger Things’, as he said the creative team – which includes creators and showrunners the Duffer Brothers – have come up with a “very clear ending”.

He added: “It’s coming to an end, it’s a very clear ending, they’ve done something to make ‘Stranger Things’ finish and that’s wonderful.

“I can’t wait for it to be this beautiful little gem.”

David’s castmate Sadie Sink – who has played Max Mayfield on the show since 2017 – recently admitted she “cried so much” during filming for the last season.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: “I haven’t seen anything from it yet, I’m very curious though. It’s going to be super emotional so I’m ready to cry with everyone.

“I had cried so much that my eyes were so puffy — they had never been like that before and there are some pretty embarrassing photos of me just with these giant puffy eyes.”

In 2023, David told the same outlet that it was “definitely time” for ‘Stranger Things’ to end.

He said: “What’s funny is when I started the show, I never, ever wanted it to end. That’s why I love the show. I think it’s a great show, even if I wasn’t in it.

“Now we’re almost nine years from filming the first season, and I think it is time for it to end. But it is, of course, very bittersweet. You know, there’s a sadness there.

“But also, we’ve all grown up … It is time for us to leave that nest and try other things and different projects.”
