Gwen Stefani lets her faith lead the way in love, as the singer revealed that a “third party” is to thank for her successful marriage to Blake Shelton.
The “Sweet Escape” singer, 55, made the revelation during a visit to Drew Barrymore‘s daytime talk show on Wednesday, April 23.
Drew, 50, asked Gwen about her best advice on love. The Voice alum pointed to the heavens and said, “Best advice would probably be, make sure you have a third party,” seemingly referring to God.
Gwen is deeply faithful. She’s a lifelong practicing Catholic who regularly attends church.
During the appearance, the “Hollaback Girl” singer made several admissions about her happy home life with Blake, 48.
Drew asked Gwen a series of rapid-fire questions, including “date night out or a date night in?”
“For sure in. I’m literally like — couch, blanket, cookies, chips,” she responded about her perfect date night with Blake.
“I have the dogs right here. We have two couches … Blake’s on that couch and we’re like ‘Hi!’” she continued before adding why they wouldn’t be cuddled up together.
“I would sit next to him, but he’s gigantic and we don’t fit anywhere,” Gwen said with a laugh, referring to the country superstar’s 6-foot-5 frame.
Gwen and Blake began dating in the fall of 2015, after they each split from their respective spouses that summer. The couple married in July 2021.
Blake and Miranda Lambert announced they were divorcing in July 2015 after four years of marriage. Gwen and Gavin Rossdale announced their split in August 2015 after 13 years of marriage.
The Anaheim, California, native spoke about a different third party who was allegedly involved in her marriage to Gavin, 59, during a 2016 interview with Harper’s Bazaar. She opened up about discovering how the Bush frontman was allegedly having an affair with the family’s nanny.
“Everybody knows what happened next,” she said about discovering the alleged infidelity following her performance at the Grammys on February 8, 2015. “February 9. I obviously know the date.”
“It was the beginning of hell. Like six, seven, eight months of torture, trying to figure out this big secret,” she continued. Gwen said she wanted to “tell everybody,” but kept quiet for the sake of the former couple’s three sons: Kingston, 18, Zuma, 16, and Apollo, 11.
The No Doubt frontwoman said she turned to a higher power in her time of crisis.
“What happened was praying,” she told the publication about how she coped with the heartache.
“That’s my childhood, that’s how I was raised. And I think I strayed from that. But you know when it gets that bad, you just get desperate? You’re on your knees. You’re like, ‘What do I do?’ You can’t even go to your parents and ask them what to do,” she explained.

Gwen lamented how the split from Gavin led to a type of family life she never envisioned. “It was so insane because not only did my family break up, but then my kids are taken away like half the time, so that was really like, ‘What?! What did I do?’” she said. “My dreams were shattered. All I wanted my whole life was to have babies, be married, like what my parents have.”
The “Used to Love You” singer said that her fellow The Voice judge Blake opening up that he and Miranda, 41, were divorcing helped her through her own situation.
“There I was with my big secret, right? And that’s when Blake was like, ‘Everybody, before we go out there, I want to let everyone know that by the time this airs, I will be divorced.’”
The news shocked Gwen, who also felt “exposed somehow, you know? But it was like being handed this gift of a friend who was going through the exact same thing at the exact same time.”
“And then it was just like everything flipped,” she added. “It went from horrible to, like, hopeful and, like, ‘Wow, God, you just don’t know what’s gonna happen next,’” referring to her blissful romance with Blake that emerged following their respective marriages ending.
