On April 22, 2025, Disney+ announced that Dancing With the Stars would return for season 34, with late wildlife conservationist and Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s son, Robert Irwin, revealed as the first celebrity cast member. Who Is ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 34’s Robert Irwin?
Like his dad, Robert is a wildlife conservationist, as well as a photographer, zookeeper, TV presenter and actor. Many fans of Steve, who died at 44 years old in 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a short-tail stingray barb, have noted that Robert is very similar to his father. Robert primarily works at the Australia Zoo, where he often wrestles crocodiles, handles snakes, feeds the zoo animals and inspires young children with speeches, following in his dad’s footsteps whenever possible.
In addition to his work with wildlife, Robert cohosts the Network 10 reality show I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here with Julia Morris. His past TV work includes the shows Robert’s Real Life Adventures, Wild But True and his family’s Animal Planet series, Crikey! It’s the Irwins. Robert also cowrote the book series Robert Irwin: Dinosaur Hunter.
Where Does Robert Irwin Live?
Robert is currently living out a dream of many young animal lovers by taking up residence at the Australia Zoo. He spoke about the experience in a September 2024 interview with Mamamia, sharing his daily routine.
“I usually get woken up as the sun comes up, let the chickens out and collect their eggs, then make myself some breakfast,” the Australia native said. “By that time, I can start to hear the lemurs waking up too!”
Robert’s mom, Terri Irwin, and sister, Bindi Irwin, also live at the zoo, so Robert said evening meals are often a family affair around the firepit.
“My house, my mum’s house, my sister and my little niece, our backyards all join together, so when we’re all at home, we eat together pretty much every night,” he explained.
Is Robert Irwin Married?
As the 21-year-old younger sibling in the Irwin family, Robert has yet to tie the knot and start a family like his older sister, who married Chandler Powell in 2020 and welcomed daughter Grace in 2021. In fact, Robert opened up about his single status in an interview with People in April 2025.
“I don’t!” he told the outlet when asked if he had a girlfriend. “I’m single. It’s funny, I’m at this point in my life where I’m like, I’m so open to that, but I’m just waiting for the stars to align.”
Robert said he thinks he’ll meet his future partner at work, like Bindi and his mom both met their soulmates.
“Interestingly, my parents, my sister Bindi met her husband here — everyone met here at our wildlife sanctuary,” he explained. “In both instances, there were American tourists that were coming over and visiting the zoo. So I’m waiting. I’m waiting for that American tourist to come into the zoo and for it all to happen!”
Robert continued, “I look at the couple goals in my life. I look at when my brother-in-law Chandler and my sister Bindi met, it was just meant to be. And when my mom and dad met, it was this crazy serendipitous, amazing moment that just was a fluke.”

Robert may have some family luck on his side on Dancing With the Stars, as Bindi previously competed in season 21 with partner Derek Hough and took home the Mirrorball Trophy.
“It truly has changed my life and I feel like I’ve grown as a person,” Bindi, who was just 17 years old when she danced on the show, said on Good Morning America after the win. “Not only have I learned about the world of sequins and sparkles and high heels, but to be blessed with this beautiful family, I feel like my family has just been extended, even more than animals! This experience will forever be an art of my life and forever live in my heart.”
