After a lot of movie news yesterday, day 2 of Star Wars Celebration Japan was primarily about television. Andor and Ahsoka received the most focus. Manny Jacinto welcomes you into the post.
In unsurprising news, Hayden Christensen will officially be back for season 2 of Ahsoka. Showrunner Dave Filoni revealed filming starts in London in 4 days.
They also shared a first look at Rory McCann as Baylan Skoll. McCann is taking over the role from the late Ray Stevenson, who passed away before season 1 aired. Stevenson’s family gave their blessing for the recast.
Finally, a vintage teaser featuring concept art was played. This revealed that Zeb Orrelios will appear in season 2, after being the only Rebels crew member absent in season 1 (OP note: shoutout to Zeb for getting his own separate mention in both of these posts lol).
A new behind the scenes featurette dropped ahead of Andor‘s panel, which featured the entire cast. Kyle Soller teased that Dedra and Syril’s relationship gets even weirder in season 2, while Alan Tudyk pitched K2 Fast K2 Furious. Genevieve O’Reilly shared that Mon starts the season back on Chandrila and Adria Arjona said Bix begins season 2 trying to reconstruct her life.
The social media embargo for season 2 has now ended and, while social media embargos can be notoriously inflated, early reviews are glowing.
This was technically announced yesterday, but the last post was already too long: it was confirmed that the next animated series will be Maul: Shadow Lord, with Sam Witwer returning to voice Maul. It will arrive on Disney+ in 2026.
