Star Wars Celebration (essentially a Star Wars-specific Comic Con) is taking place in Tokyo this weekend. Lucasfilm shared news about upcoming projects during their opening panel. Various past and future cast members, including Pedro Pascal, Ryan Gosling, Diego Luna, Sigourney Weaver, and Hayden Christensen were photographed at Tokyo’s Zojoji Temple ahead of the event.
Firstly, Ryan Gosling appeared at the event to confirm he would lead Shawn Levy’s standalone film which will be titled Star Wars: Starfighter. Levy also shared that Starfighter will take place several years after The Rise of Skywalker.
Filming is set for this fall, with release scheduled for May 28, 2027. That weekend will mark the 50th anniversary of A New Hope‘s release.
Earlier this week, news dropped that Mikey Madison had been offered a role but passed. No other casting has yet been shared.
Pedro Pascal and Grogu made an appearance to introduce The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is scheduled to release May 22, 2026.
Sigourney Weaver joined Pascal to discuss the Mandalorian movie. A still showed during the panel revealed she’ll be playing a pilot. For fellow Star Wars Rebels fans, a different still also revealed a look at Zeb Orrelios in the movie.
It was also confirmed that Jeremy Allen White will voice Jabba the Hutt’s son Rotta (OP note: yeah idek).
For those keeping track at home, the current roster of films in confirmed development is as follows: a new trilogy from Simon Kinberg, plus individual films from James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Taika Waititi. It remains to be seen how many will actually make it out of development.
Finally, a new promo for Andor season 2, which debuts with a 3-episode premiere on Tuesday, was released as well.
