Selena Gomez has been opening up about her burning desire to be a mom someday and a source exclusively tells Life & Style that she and fiancé Benny Blanco are doing tons of research with a view to making it happen sooner rather than later.
“The first thing on their list is to get married, they aren’t going to do anything before that, but once they are married, a baby will be the next priority because they’re both eager to start a family,” the source reveals to Life & Style about the couple. “Selena has been advised against pregnancy because of her health issues, but there’s no reason they can’t welcome a child via surrogacy.”
In addition to surrogacy, the insider says that Selena, 32, and Benny, 37, have “talked about adoption as well.”
“Whatever they choose, surrogacy or adoption, it’s going to take a lot more planning and time than simply doing it the old-fashioned way,” the source points out. “That’s why they want to get the ball rolling. There’s a lot to consider with both adoption and surrogacy, so at the moment they’re talking to people that have walked the road before to get advice.”
The insider adds that the couple ultimately has “to decide which is the right choice for them.” However, “one thing they are very clear on is that they do want children, that’s a big part of their life plan.”
Selena – who has been diagnosed with both lupus and bipolar disorder – previously revealed that she won’t be able to carry a child due to her health problems. “I haven’t ever said this,” she told Vanity Fair in September 2024. “But I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
She and Benny got engaged in December 2024 after one year of dating, and fans have gotten to know more about their relationship during their press tour for their March 2025 album, I Said I Love You First, including their hopes to have children.
“I don’t know what will happen, obviously, but I love children. I have an 11-year-old sister that I absolutely adore,” Selena said about her younger sibling, Gracie, during her and Benny’s joint interview on the “Jay Shetty Podcast.”
“I love making [children] laugh; they’re just so sweet. So absolutely, when that day comes, I’m so excited for it,” Selena continued.
After noting that Selena is “the ultimate level of shy” in most situations, Benny said that she’s the opposite with children. “When she walks into a room, her main goal is to disappear into the crowd. My mom is very similar, [she] and my mom are very similar,” he said. “They’ll wait and say like one thing throughout the night that winds up being the most poignant or funny thing of the night. But I’m gonna have diarrhea of the mouth talking to everyone.”
“Whenever there’s kids at a place it’s the only time I see her do that. She immediately goes to the kids and has these conversations for hours with the kids,” Benny continued, noting that the behavior may be linked to her former career as a child star.
