Matt Bomer is looking back at turning down Barbie.
Back in November 2023, the 47-year-old Mid-Century Modern actor revealed that he auditioned to play one of the Kens in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie, but turned down the role because he didn’t want to “spend extensive time away from his family.”
However, now in a new interview published on April 10, Matt revealed the real reason why he turned down the role.
Keep reading to find out more…While speaking with Business Insider, Matt turned down the Ken role to appear in Bradley Cooper‘s movie Maestro instead.
“Even though my part in Maestro was smaller, Bradley was so collaborative with me from the get-go,” Matt explained. “It was such an immersive experience that to have just flown in from London to film my scenes [in Barbie] really quick and fly back to London—I feel like Maestro wouldn’t have been the same experience for me.”
Matt went on to emphasize that Maestro, in which he played Leonard Bernstein’s lover David Oppenheim, taught him a lot as a dramatic actor that will shape “the rest of my career on film.”
“It was a way of working that I’m really grateful that I got to be exposed to,” Matt explained. “I wouldn’t have, I think, if I were trying to just squeeze it in.”
In another new interview, Matt looked back at being outed by the media and the unfair treatment he faced.
