The White Lotus season 3 has given fans plenty of suspects regarding who might be the killer. Several of the characters have storylines that could easily culminate in a murder by the end of the season, and Life & Style is delving into some of the most intriguing theories about who could be holding the gun.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for The White Lotus season 3.
Greg/Gary Hunt Seems Too Obvious to Be ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Killer
Out of all of the characters fans have met this season on The White Lotus, Gary (who previously went by Greg and is played by none other than Napoleon Dynamite’s Uncle Rico actor Jon Gries) is the only person viewers know for sure to be a bad guy. He had a hand in Tanya McQuoid’s (Jennifer Coolidge) death last season, and nothing screams shady like a man who lies about his name.
In episode 6, Gary had a startlingly icy reaction to his girlfriend Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) telling him she’d spent the night on a boat partying with Saxon Ratliff (Patrick Schwarzenegger) and Lochlan Ratliff (Sam Nivola). Charlotte lied about hooking up with Saxon and Lochlan, but Gary saw right through it. Instead of exploding in a rage, he insisted that she invite the boys over for dinner. While this laid out a pretty clear motive for why Gary might want to kill the brothers, it seems too obvious of a choice for creator Mike White to go with.
Saxon Ratliff’s Storyline Is Already Dark, So Fans Speculate He Could Be the Killer
Saxon has seemed off from the first episode of The White Lotus season 3. He inappropriately hounds his sister, Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook), about her sex life, chastises his younger brother and more. The guy gives off some seriously dark “bro” vibes.
As if seeing Saxon and Lochlan kiss in episode 5 wasn’t enough, things got even worse in the following episode when Lochlan had sex with Chloe while he got a little handsy with Saxon in the bed as well. The next morning both of the brothers pretended not to remember what happened. When Chloe reminded Saxon of his incestuous night with Lochlan, it was clear he wasn’t taking the news well. Could his unraveling lead to him pulling the gun on someone?
Fans Think the Gunshots in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Opener Is a Red Herring
The White Lotus season 3 opened with the sound of gunshots and an unidentified body floating in the water surrounding the hotel. However, several fans think the shots are going to end up being a red herring. Instead, a lot of viewers have pondered whether the poisonous fruit that grows on the property and is pointed out in the first episode is going to be the real killer.
One fan thinks the death this season will be an accidental one at the hands of Timothy Ratliff, played by Jason Isaacs.
“I think the shooting is unrelated to the body Zion finds in the opening of Season 3. It’s either Victoria or Lochlan,” one Redditor wrote on The White Lotus subreddit. “Timothy, feeling cornered with nowhere to go, will whip up a smoothie laced with seeds from that poisonous fruit Pam points out in episode 1. He’ll get distracted by something and Lochlan / Victoria will knock it back thinking it’s harmless and succumb to the poisoning a few hours before the shooting takes place.”
Timothy learned he was about to be forced to pay the piper when his financial crimes came to light, and he’s been spiraling ever since. The dad of three has constantly been considering suicide but has yet to muster up the courage to do it. With the gun being removed from his possession, could he opt for a different method that could ultimately lead to the accidental death of one of his family members? Anything’s possible.
New episodes of The White Lotus premiere on Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. on HBO and Max.
