Rachael Kirkconnell revealed that she and ex-boyfriend Matt James “did have a conversation” after she opened up about their breakup during her tell-all “Call Her Daddy” interview.

Nearly two months after Rachael, 28, shared details about her and Matt’s split on the January 28 episode of “Call Her Daddy,” she opened up about the aftermath of the interview while appearing on “The Squeeze” podcast on Wednesday, March 26.

“I think if he ever wants to share his side of it and his story then he’s more than able to, of course,” Rachael said of Matt, 33. “I think that hearing certain things come from him helped me a lot. I think that, you know, not only did he apologize for things, but he took a lot of things back.”

While she said that hearing his side “was really hard to hear” and “was really sad,” Rachael explained that the conversation made it easier to understand his point of view. “Sometimes I tell myself it was so nice to hear the things I had been wanting to hear for weeks and I finally got that apology and that closure and that honesty that I needed from him,” she said.

The conversation may have given her clarity, though she said “it still didn’t change anything” between her and Matt. “It still happened. He still did what he did and we still had to navigate everything after that,” she said.

Despite having the conversation, Rachael added that she and Matt are not in regular contact. “I have not been texting him, I have not been calling him, don’t worry,” she told host Tay Lautner.

Rachael also shared an update about how she’s doing after the breakup, insisting that she feels “less heartbroken” than when she spoke to “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper about the split. She added that she has no “hatred or ill-will” towards Matt after he blindsided her with the split.

“I think you can forgive someone without, you know, taking them back or wanting to work through things or whatever it may be. I think you can forgive someone and accept their apology, but then keep moving on,” she said. “But it doesn’t mean you have to have them back in your life.”

Matt shocked fans when he announced that he and Rachael called it quits in January after four years of dating. Soon after their breakup, Rachael said that she was blindsided when Matt decided to end their romance.

After she broke her silence on the split during her “Call Her Daddy” appearance, Rachael exclusively spoke to Life & Style about how she wants fans to perceive her as an individual.

“I wasn’t seen as an individual person but more as a unit. So, really, I want people to know everything about me,” she admitted. “I don’t think there’s anything specific. I’m excited to let people in a little bit more.”

The Georgia native continued, “I think I’ve been more reserved in the last few years. And I think I was thinking about more than just myself when it came to every single aspect of my life and any decision I made.”

Now that Rachael is single, she said that she wants to put herself “out there in every way.”
