Scuderia Ferrari HP have had quite the roller coaster of a weekend at the 2025 Formula 1 Heineken Chinese Grand Prix!
On Saturday (March 22), Lewis Hamilton won his first race with the team, taking home the first place trophy for the Sprint Race.
The next day, however, after post race inspections following the main race, both Ferrari drivers, Lewis and Charles Leclerc, were disqualified for two different reasons, causing them to lose their finishing positions and the points they earned. Charles finished fifth and Lewis finished in sixth.

Lewis was DQ’d after “the rearmost skid was found to be below the minimum 9mm thickness required,” per Formula1.com.
For Charles, his car was found to be underweight, coming in just one kg under the minimum 800kg requirement per Article 4.1 of the Technical Regulations.
In a post-race technical report, Charles‘ car was weighed at exactly 800kg, but after his front wing was damaged early on in the race, the car was reweighed with the added endplate and an official spare wing, bringing the weight to 800.5kg. However, after fuel was drained per standard procedures, the car came in just underweight.
Following both of their drivers’ disqualifications, Ferrari released a statement addressing what went wrong.
“Following the FIA post-race scrutineering both our cars were found not to conform to the regulations for different reasons. Car 16 was found to be underweight by 1 kg and car 44’s rearward skid wear was found to be 0.5mm below the limit,” the team shared.
“Charles was on a one-stop strategy today and this meant his tyre wear was very high, causing the car to be underweight. With regard to Lewis’ skid wear, we misjudged the consumption by a small margin.”
“There was no intention to gain any advantage,” they concluded. “We will learn from what happened today and make sure we don’t make the same mistakes again. Clearly it’s not the way we wanted to end our Chinese GP weekend, neither for ourselves, nor for our fans whose support for us is unwavering.”
This also makes history for the Scuderia Ferrari team, as this is the first time both drivers have been disqualified from a race.
Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was also disqualified from the race, also due to a weight breach.
