Christine Quinn’s nasty split with ex Christian Dumontet shocked fans when it made headlines, and she emotionally opened up about the “dehumanizing” experience 11 months after they filed for divorce.

Christian, 46, was arrested in March 2024 in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident involving their toddler son, Christian Georges. His legal troubles continued later that month when he was arrested again for violating an emergency protective order that Christine, 36, said she was granted.

“Everyone sees the incident that occurred, but this is something that had been going on for a while,” Christine told People in an interview published on Tuesday, March 18, about the issues in their relationship before his arrests. “This is something that had been under the surface for a long time. It was extremely unhealthy, and I like to think that I’m extremely resilient — and I am.”

Christine added that the way Christian treated Christian Georges, 3, ultimately influenced her to leave their marriage. “There are certain things that I could tolerate, and it got to a point where it was affecting my son, and that wasn’t OK. I was like, ‘OK, I can deal with this, I’m an adult,’” she recalled. “But bringing him into the chaos and everything that kind of ensued, I was like, ‘No, this is not OK.’”

After noting that the interview was the “first time” she publicly spoke about her ex’s legal issues, she added, “Some people knew stuff was going on, but no one knew the extent of it in terms of how bad everything really was.”

The real estate agent also admitted that ending the marriage was a difficult decision. “It was really hard for me because I look at my parents. My parents are high school sweethearts,” she told the outlet. “I made a vow, and I really didn’t want to break that. It took everything out of me, it really did, to realize that this is the right thing to do. And then it became a matter of safety. It was initially safety for me, and then it was safety for my son. And so I had to walk away.”

Christine said that she and Christian Georges had “no choice but to leave” their house in Los Angeles and relocate to Texas following Christian’s arrests. “I really didn’t have a choice. I was granted an emergency protective order so my ex couldn’t come to the house. He violated that, and would keep coming back,” the Selling Sunset alum continued.

She said that it was “very difficult” to live in a hotel after Christian’s arrests, adding that she also crashed on friends’ couches since she didn’t feel safe at her home.

Christian and his lawyer did not respond to People or Life & Style‘s request for comment in light of the bombshells revealed in Christine’s interview.

Now that Christine and Christian Georges are settled in Texas, she said that she is “really, really grateful to be living here” and that it is a blessing to “be close to my family.”

“I have a sister who lives really close to me, and my son has a cousin. So it’s really something that I needed as opposed to the chaos when I was in Los Angeles,” Christine said of her current support system, adding that her son is “absolutely loving” their new life in Texas.
