Conan O’Brien is opening up about hosting the Oscars!
The 61-year-old comedian served as host of the 2025 Academy Awards for the first time earlier this month.
In a new interview, Conan shared some ideas he pitched for the Oscars statue that were ultimately shot down by the Academy due to their strict rules.
Keep reading to find out more…“At one point, I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if it’s just on the couch?’” Conan shared on his Conan Needs a Friend podcast.
“Let’s lay it on a really big couch and I’ll be vacuuming and say, ‘Could you at least lift your feet? Or could you at least get up and help? Load the dishwasher?’” he added.
As he recalled, Conan‘s pitch for the statue was quickly shot down by the Oscars team.
“’No, no no, that can’t happen,’” they told him.
“One of the people from the Academy came forward and said, ‘Oscar can never be horizontal,’” Conan explained. “That blew my mind. Like, wow, this is like the thigh bone of St. Peter. This is a religious icon.”
Another idea he had was to depict the trophy as a housewife in an apron serving him leftovers, but that was also quickly shot down.
