Chrono Trigger was released on March 11th, 1995 in Japan. The fabled “Dream Project” that crossed the streams by bringing together members of rival JRPG series Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger has stood the test of time and is, today, considered one of the greatest video games of all time. Additionally, when observed through a strict “greatest JRPG video games of all time” lense, Chrono Trigger is assuredly one of the first names that comes up in the conversation, frequently taking the top spot.

Despite the pedigree, the Chrono series has remained under served in terms of gaming representation. What started with Chrono Trigger has only expanded to include Chrono Cross, and a weird visual novel thing that doesn’t make much sense. There have been a slew of re-releases for Chrono Trigger (and an HD remake of Chrono Cross), but it doesn’t get much love.

That is expected to change! Square Enix took to their socials to announce new projects for Chrono Trigger to celebrate the game’s 30th anniversary. There’s not much information as to what will happen with these projects, but Square Enix does have their HD-2D engine. Dare we dream of a remake? I’ll be honest, I actually don’t want a graphical remake. I’ll buy it if they do it, but I’d be happy with a remake that has orchestrated music and hit tabs so that I can finally have a character who has double star stats for every stat in the game.

In the meantime, here’s Frog’s theme, which is my answer to the question of “if you could have a song be your theme song in life, what would it be?”
