Kyle Richards has been taking care of estranged husband Mauricio Umansky in the wake of his recent skiing accident and it’s led to friends hoping the pair’s newly harmonious dynamic will result in them finally wrapping up their long-running divorce saga, despite recently seeming to take a step back as they rehash some paparazzi photo drama.
A source exclusively tells Life & Style that their impending divorce has “been hanging over their heads for a long time,” though it’s not for a lack of trying on their part. In fact, a lot of it is out of their control as they haggle over the details. “They just haven’t gotten through it because their assets are all tied up together,” the insider adds.
Mauricio, 54, suffered a nasty accident while hitting the slopes in Colorado, ending up with a snapped collar bone. He posted a photo of his broken clavicle to Instagram along with a picture of himself in a hospital bed, writing, “Let’s get this surgery done so I can heal. Play hard sometimes you get hurt but the care here has been incredible.”
The real estate broker was likely referring to the hospital staff, but fans were quick to note another caring presence at his bedside – Kyle, 55, who was also in Colorado at the same time – despite how unlikely that may have seemed just a few weeks ago.
The insider notes that doting on her estranged hubby isn’t just bringing up old feelings for the Housewife, but rather evidence of lingering attachment that is also helping to grind their divorce proceedings to a standstill.
Finalizing the divorce is “also a very big, emotional step,” the source adds. “It’s very final, and it’s safe to say there’s some part of each of them that’s struggled to fully let go.”
Though, that doesn’t mean RHOBH fans will be seeing an on-screen reunion anytime soon. During the episode that aired on Tuesday, March 11, the former couple awkwardly brought up Mauricio’s Mykonos kiss with a mystery woman.
Kyle admitted that particular act of indiscretion made their split even more complicated, telling the confessional camera, “I don’t know what this relationship is. I don’t know if this is just a passing thing or a serious thing, and I know how women are,”
Though, the insider insists, “there is no chance they are getting back together, so they really need to get this divorce done and dusted.”
They first split in October 2023, which means their will-they-won’t-they has been going on for well over a year now.
“It will be good for everybody to have this all hashed out and a settlement reached because while they’re negotiating things are a little awkward,” the insider adds. “Their goal is to be able to have plenty of family time despite their split, so the sooner this gets settled the better. That way they can move smoothly into this new normal.”
“Obviously, there is still a very strong connection between them, Kyle dropped everything to be there for Mauricio. Now if only they could come together on a settlement.”
