Selena Gomez arrived at the 2025 Oscars without fiancé Benny Blanco for her big night, hitting the red carpet before the star-studded ceremony began.
The Emilia Pérez actress, whose film earned an impressive 13 nominations, made an appearance at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Sunday, March 2, wearing a custom Ralph Lauren off-the-shoulder dress inspired by Sophia Loren. The gown was embellished with more than 16,000 glass droplets and Rosemont crystals, and the Ralph Lauren team airbrushed the glass drops to create a pink ombré color. Selena completed the look with a collar necklace with a diamond drop pendant, and she also wore diamond earrings and many rings.
Selena, 32, stepped out in honor of the highly anticipated event hosted by Conan O’Brien, which is held annually to recognize achievement in excellence in motion pictures.
Emilia Pérez is up for the top prize of the night with a Best Picture nod and the musical drama will be competing with other blockbuster films including Wicked, The Substance, Nickel Boys, I’m Still Here, Anora, A Complete Unknown, The Brutalist and Dune: Part Two for the coveted trophy.
The film, which had the most nominations going into the 97th Academy Awards, weathered controversy prior to the awards show due to resurfaced tweets from lead star Karla Sofía Gascón commenting on Muslims, George Floyd, and even an apparent dig toward her costar Selena, who played Jessi Del Monte in Emilia Pérez.
“Some of the magic [of the movie] has disappeared,” Selena said at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, where she was given the Virtuosos Award. “But I choose to continue to be proud of what I’ve done and I’m just grateful. I live with no regrets, and I would do this movie over and over again if I could.”
“Just having someone see something in me besides the obvious was such a special experience,” she added. “The director [Jacques Audiard] just really trusted me, and I was so grateful because I’ve gotten to show people that I am capable of doing more. I hope this is just the beginning for me in this field.”
Karla recently addressed ongoing controversy over the old tweets in a new statement.
“I cannot repair my past actions, I can only say that today I am not the same person as 10 or 20 years ago, that although I had not committed any crime, I was not perfect either, I am not even now. I just try to learn and be a better person every day,” Karla wrote in response to the backlash on February 1.
“I recognize, through tears, that they have already won, they have achieved their goal, to tarnish my existence with lies or things taken out of context,” she continued.
“Anyone who knows me knows that I am not racist (they will be surprised when they discover that one of the most important people in my current life and the one I love the most is Muslim) nor any of the things for which they have judged and condemned me without trial and without the option to explain their true intention; I have always fought for a more just society and for a world of freedom, peace and love. I will never support wars, religious extremism or the oppression of races and peoples.”
Despite controversy surrounding the movie, Emilia Pérez became a critically acclaimed film. Although Selena didn’t get a nomination for her role, she has plenty to celebrate considering she and Benny, 36, announced their engagement just a few months ago in December 2024. The couple had been dating since June 2023.
“Forever begins now..,” she captioned the post.
Benny also sweetly commented, “Hey wait… that’s my wife.”
