Love Is Blind star Molly Mullaney returned in episode 11 and she arrived with some bad news for Lauren O’Brien.
Before Molly, 30, showed up in the episode that aired on Friday, February 28, Lauren, 31, and her fiancé, David “Dave” Bettenburg, had a conversation the morning after he spent a night out with friends and didn’t stay at the apartment he and Lauren shared. Dave, 33, revealed that the previous night he had gone out with some of his friends to a bar called Nolo.
While Dave was at the bar, he ran into several of the people from the Love Is Blind season 8 cast. He explained that one of his costars approached him and told him that Molly, who he developed a close connection with in the pods, was there.
“I don’t want to throw everyone on the spot but it was like, ‘Hey, Molly’s here. Do you wanna go meet her?’ I was just like, ‘No. Absolutely not.’ That would be the dumbest thing ever. To even say hi, that would just be stupid,” Dave told Lauren in episode 10.
Lauren agreed that Dave made the right choice, considering “the state” he was in, referring to their ongoing struggles with her pre-show situationship. Dave ultimately couldn’t get past the fact that Lauren was in a casual relationship before arriving to film Love Is Blind, and he called off their engagement at the beginning of episode 11, leaving the educational sales professional in tears.
Later in the same episode, Molly and Lauren had a chance to talk after some of the cast met up to go snowtubing. While Dave might not have spoken to Molly that night at the bar, the former Timberwolves cheerleader revealed some details that he seemingly left out during his conversation with Lauren.
“Tiera from the pods was there and said, ‘Hey, Dave’s over there. Do you wanna say hi?’ I said, ‘Nope, I’m good,’” Molly explained to Lauren. “But apparently there was a girl all over him. I didn’t see it. I don’t know what ‘all over him’ means.”
Lauren was visibly surprised to hear the news, and Molly said that she struggled with whether or not to let Lauren know about the situation the night that it happened.
Molly continued, “I was like, ‘Do I text Lauren about it?’ and I was like, ‘I don’t want it to seem like I’m bitter, or that I’m trying to cause things.’ I was like, ‘Someone needs to tell Lauren this because I don’t want her not knowing this going into a marriage.’ That’s a big f–king deal.”
It was then that Lauren announced that she and Dave had officially broken up before going into the details about him not being able to accept her past relationships.
Dave and Lauren developed a relationship early on in the pods during Love Is Blind season 8, but things began to go south once they returned to the real world. Lauren has been open about their struggles and even told Vulture that she felt a “shift” in Dave’s behavior after producers allowed them to have their phones back. The medical device salesman couldn’t handle the opinions of his friends and family who weren’t on board with his engagement to Lauren and it eventually led to the demise of their relationship.
