Kylie Jenner’s parents Kris and Caitlyn are both thrilled to see her happily in love with Timothée Chalamet, and they’re both vying to spend as much time as possible with the couple – which has gotten quite competitive – a source exclusively tells Life & Style.
“Caitlin and Kylie are much closer than people realize,” the source says, “they see each other all the time.” Kylie and Kendall’s father, Caitlyn, 75, has a complicated history with the Kardashian family. The Olympic gold medalist was married to Kris, 69, from 1991 to 2015, though they separated in 2013.
“We are living separately and we are much happier this way, but we will always have much love and respect for each other,” the joint statement they released at the time read. “Even though we are separated, we will always remain best friends and, as always, our family will remain our number one priority.”
In the decade that followed, Caitlyn and Kris engaged in a bitter feud, with Caitlyn publicly trashing her marriage to Kris – and some of the schemes the family got up to in their pursuit of fame – in magazine interviews and on television.
Caitlyn’s relationship with each of her children and step children varies, but she is very close with youngest daughter Kylie, who told Harper’s Bazaar in 2020 she speaks to her dad, “like every day.”
“My dad was the best growing up,” the 27-year-old told the publication. “Never missed a sports game. Took us to school every day, and our school was like 45 minutes from our house.”
Now, with Kylie dating one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood, Caitlyn is making it a point to keep up with their romance and spend as much time as possible getting to know Timothée, 29.
“Caitlyn has met Timothée and thinks he’s a charming young man, not to mention incredibly talented, she totally gushes about him and is very proud that her daughter has landed such a catch,” the source says. “She’s always telling Kylie to bring him around more and no surprise she and Kris have ended up in a competition over who gets more time with him and Kylie.”
Never one to miss an opportunity to conjure drama, the source notes Kris has been angling more successfully for time with the couple, as they film The Kardashians and plan family getaways together.
“At this point Kris is winning, they had that big family trip to Italy that Caitlyn wasn’t invited to,” the insider remarks. “Of course, Kris rubbed that in Cait’s face, but truth be told neither of them have really gotten a whole ton of face time with him.” So far, the actor has managed to elude Kris’ demand that Kylie feature him on their show, The Kardashians.
“His schedule is crazy and when he’s not working, he and Kylie mostly hide out at his house, they are very insular. They really don’t do a whole lot with her family so it’s a big win for Kris or Caitlyn when they do get face time with him.”
