Get ready to head back to the ranch! Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoff 1923 is returning, and with it comes several familiar faces along with a handful of newcomers. Here’s what to know about 1923 season 2.
When Does ‘1923’ Season 2 Come Out?
1923 season 2 premieres on February 23, 2025, and it will be exclusively streaming on Paramount+.
Which Cast Members Are Returning for ‘1923’ Season 2?
Legendary actor Harrison Ford will be back in 1923 season 2 as Jacob Dutton, the ancestor of Yellowstone’s John Dutton III, as well as Helen Mirren in the role of Jacob’s wife, Cara Dutton. Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Jerome Flynn, Darren Mann, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Michelle Randolph, Sebastian Roché and Timothy Dalton are also returning to their respective roles for season 2.
As for newcomers, viewers will meet Mamie Fossett, a U.S. deputy marshal played by Jennifer Carpenter, Augustus Prew as Paul, a British man on a passenger ship, and Jane Montgomery as Hilary, a woman on the hunt for justice.
What Happened in ‘1923’ Season 1?
1923 picked up with the Dutton family in the early 20th century, as they struggled with a drought, major financial problems and violent power struggles. Jacob and Cara were doing everything they could to keep the Yellowstone ranch afloat, all while fending off threats from greedy landowners, corrupt officials and the rising tensions between cattlemen and sheepherders.
Season 1 also introduced fans to Spencer Dutton, played by Brandon Sklenar. Spencer is Jacob and Cara’s son, but instead of holding down the ranch with his pops, he was spending his time getting paid by wealthy clients to take down some of the biggest predators in Africa. While there, he met Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer), a British aristocrat who had traveled to the country with her stick-in-the-mud fiancé, Arthur. However, the spark between Spencer and Alexandra was undeniable and she ultimately gave Arthur the boot when she decided on a life of adventure with Spencer.
The couple later had an unfortunate run-in with Arthur on their way back to the States on the HMS Majestic. Arthur challenged Spencer to a sword fight, and while Spencer agreed, Arthur pulled a gun in the midst of the duel. In self defense, Spencer pushed Arthur overboard, which resulted in his death and Spencer’s arrest.
1923 season 1 also focused on Teonna Rainwater, a young Indigenous woman who suffered abuse at the hands of the Catholic nuns working at the government-run boarding school she attended. Teonna managed to escape but lawmen were hot on her trail.
What’s in Store for ‘1923’ Season 2?
While the 1923 season 2 trailer does a great job at keeping overall plot lines a mystery, it’s clear that viewers will continue to see Jacob and Cara fight for their land. The couple will have to hold their ground against plenty of politicians and the wealthy to keep their property from becoming a “playground for the elite.” To make matters worse, Cara, who asked for Spencer to return home in season 1, points out that she’s not sure he’ll make it with such a “harsh winter” on the horizon.
