Why Did Beverly Ortega Quit ‘The Bachelor’ Season 29?
During the third episode of the season, Beverly got the opportunity to get to know leading man Grant Ellis better when she was asked on a one on one date. However, it was revealed she fell ill and left the show before she and Grant were able to go on their date.
Beverly wasn’t able to explain her absence herself, and fellow contestant Parisa Shifteh broke the news that she left. “Today was supposed to be Beverly’s one-on-one with Grant. But yesterday morning she was very sick,” Parisa explained in a confessional. “And we found out that she will not be coming back to the house.”
Beverly Ortega Breaks Her Silence After Leaving ‘The Bachelor’ Season 29
While Beverly’s exit from the show wasn’t further explained during her final episode, she opened up about her decision to leave the competition during the February 11, 2025, episode of the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast hosted by fellow Bachelor Nation stars Joe Amiable and Serena Pitt.
She first explained that she was “honestly so happy” to have gotten a one-on-one date, adding that she looked forward to getting the opportunity to strengthen her bond with Grant.
“I honestly was so excited, because I’m like, ‘We’re gonna have the whole day. I’m gonna get to eat, sleep, just relax, no drama. And I take a nap, and I wake up, and my stomach’s hurting,” she said during the podcast episode. “I’m like, OK, maybe I should just go to the bathroom, or the food didn’t sit well. I start throwing up. I’m like, OK, maybe I just need to get it out. So my stomach is continuing to hurt. I’m like in excruciating pain. I’m continuing to throw up. It’s a mess. This goes on for 12 hours.”
Beverly – who has been diagnosed with anxiety – explained that her panic attacks have caused her to vomit in the past, though she knew she was actually sick because she wasn’t feeling anxious.
“I wasn’t sure if it was food poisoning. I thought maybe. And my whole stomach was hurting, so it’s not like one side,” she said. “I didn’t think it was like anything serious. I was like, OK, maybe I’m just in really bad stomach pain. And at this point, because I had gone so long throwing up, I was like, this is probably why my stomach’s hurting even more, because I have nothing in my tummy.”
Production eventually took Beverly to the hospital, where she was given morphine. “The doctor came in and he’s like, ‘You have appendicitis and you’re going to need emergency surgery,’” she recalled. “At that point, I still was not really processing. I am a crier. I am emotional. Did not cry one time. I was like, ‘OK, like my family isn’t here, my friends aren’t here. I’m about to have major surgery on an organ.’”
Beverly – who had her gallbladder removed in 2018 – said that her dad suggested she fly back home and have the surgery done in New York. “So yeah, I was really, really sad. Honestly, it took me like a month and a half to recover emotionally,” she said. “Physically, obviously, I was OK. But emotionally, I was not. I left like, ‘What if?’”
