Christina Haack (formerly Hall) admitted she didn’t intend to make an emotional apology to ex-husband Tarek El Moussa while filming The Flip Off amid her divorce from estranged husband Josh Hall.
During the Wednesday, January 29, premiere episode, producers told Christina, 41, to tell Tarek, 43, that she and Josh, 44, had officially split. After the episode aired, Christina told People that the more intense and emotional aspects of their conversation “[weren’t] even intentional.”
The Christina on the Coast star explained that she was in a vulnerable state when Tarek arrived at her home to film the scene. She then said that everything she had been keeping to herself since their December 2016 split “just came out.”
“When [Tarek] came over, I had been dealing with this in real-time for a week or two, and so I was just emotional, hadn’t been sleeping,” she told the outlet, referring to her split from Josh. “And so he walks in and then I just like, it all just came out.”
Despite not intending to have such an emotional conversation, Christina said “it was definitely healing for both of us.”
“And I think some closure for viewers that have watched us since our mid-twenties and just seeing the real raw moment,” she added of the moment. “It was very authentic and it wasn’t planned.”
Not only did Christina and Tarek discuss her split from Josh during the episode, but they also looked back at their own marriage.
“I know we’re in a good place now,” Christina told Tarek during the episode. “But yeah, we went through a lot of stuff. I don’t think anyone understands just how much stuff we went through. We met when we were so young.”
She added, “When our stuff imploded, I felt like not only did I lose… we were best friends, but also I felt like I lost like, I need to be a full-time mom. And that really, really, really hurt me a lot and really affected me.”
Tarek was equally as vulnerable when he said he understood “that feeling of being a little bit lost.” He continued, “And I acknowledge that I’m a big part, if not the entire part, of all of this.”
“I’m really sorry for s–t. I really am. I just want you to know that,” Christina said through tears, and he responded, “I did a lot of things too. I hold zero against you.”
Christina and Tarek tied the knot in 2009, and they went on to welcome kids Taylor, 14, and Brayden, 9. They announced their split in 2016 after a scary incident in which Tarek left their California home with a gun, and their divorce was finalized in January 2018.
Tarek and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, have been by Christina’s side amid her split from Josh. Both Christina and Josh filed for divorce in July 2024, and they have since both made nasty comments about each other in legal paperwork and on social media.
Josh was originally supposed to star on The Flip Off alongside Christina, Tarek and Heather, 37, though he left the show after the former couple called it quits.
