Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Baldwin — and their seven kids — are at the center of their TLC reality series, but the couple found a way to immediately pay tribute to Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins after her death.
The official trailer for The Baldwins, which was released by TLC on Monday, January 27, started off with Hilaria, 44, teasing their dynamic at home, saying, “Seven children, six animals and two parents. A wild family.”
Seconds into the sneak peek, the mood became somber as Hilaria acknowledged the Rust shooting. “A son lost his mom in the most unthinkable tragedy,” she added. “This is never something to forget and we are trying to parent through it.”
Alec, 66, for his part, was seen getting visibly emotional in multiple clips.
“Honestly from the bottom of my soul, I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have you and these kids,” he said before Hilaria said in a voiceover, “We have had bad moments but we found our foundation. We are solid and we are here together.”
The Baldwins premieres on Sunday, February 23, on TLC and it comes two years after Alec was charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023 following Hutchins’ death on set. Alec was holding the prop gun that was fired on the movie set in October 2021, which killed 42-year-old Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza, but has insisted he’s not responsible for the incident.
Alec pleaded not guilty, and the charges were dropped in April 2023, but the actor was indicted again in connection with the death of Hutchins. The second case was ultimately dismissed by the judge and Baldwin has since filed a lawsuit accusing the prosecution team of malicious prosecution and civil rights violations.
TLC’s reality series offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at Alec and Hilaria’s life. The couple share seven kids: Carmen Gabriela, 11, Rafael Thomas, 9, Leonardo Ángel Charles, 8, Romeo Alejandro David, 6, Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas, María Lucía Victoria, 4, and Ilaria Catalina Irena, 2. Alec also shares daughter Ireland, 29, with ex-wife Kim Basinger.
According to a press release, The Baldwins “blends the highs and lows of family life, with the challenges and humor that come while raising a large family in the public eye.”
The series premiere documents Alec and Hilaria celebrating their oldest son’s birthday by heading to East Hampton. However, Alec and Hilaria must navigate the “emotional complexities” ahead of his trial as they attempt to keep their children’s lives “as stable as possible.”
“This series gives viewers a glimpse into our lives as a family — the good, bad, wild, and everything in between. We hope viewers will connect with our experiences and the love we share,” Alec and Hilaria said in a statement. “Filming the show has been an amazing journey, and we’re proud to have TLC as a partner in telling our story.”
The Baldwins promises to feature “hilarious moments around the dinner table to candid discussions about mental health and their ever-evolving parenting style, the series shows what life is really like for the Baldwins—chaotic, funny, exhausting, and filled with love,” according to the synopsis.
The synopsis continues: “Alec and Hilaria’s dynamic as a couple will also take center stage, with moments that showcase their deep partnership as they navigate challenges hand in hand. With seven children in tow the Baldwin household is never short on activity, but through it all, Alec and Hilaria embrace the madness with an infectious energy, showing viewers the beauty of raising a family that’s anything but ordinary.”
The Baldwins premieres on TLC Sunday, February 23, at 10 p.m. ET.
