It was yet another slow January weekend at the box office, and in a case of art reflecting life, the new Mel Gibson film Flight Risk was number one at the box office with $12 million. It was the second consecutive Lionsgate release to take the number one spot at the box office this month, after Den of Thieves 2: Pantera.
Steven Soderbergh’s Presence did not have much of one at the box office, only pulling in $3.1 million for 6th place. While it received an 87% Rotten Tomatoes rating, it only achieved a C- Cinemascore from audiences.
Mufasa came in second with $8.7 million, while One of Them Days dropped to third with $8 million. Fourth and fifth places at the box office were taken by Sonic 3 and Moana 2, with $5.5 and $4.1 million takes, respectively.
Wolf Man fell to 7th place, with $3.4 million, and the new Angel Studios release Brave the Dark debuted in 11th place with $2.4 million.
