Tim Sweeney, he CEO of gaming company Epic Games (creators of Fortnite and Unreal Engine) received an email from a prospective customer of the game Alan Wake 2, an exclusive on the Epic Games Store (it was fully funded and published by Epic Games and created by Finnish game studio Remedy Entertainment which also made Control (same universe as Alan Wake/AW2 with some overlapping characters), the Max Payne series, and Quantum Break). The fan wanted to know if Epic would ever allow Alan Wake 2 to be sold on the far more popular online gaming portal Steam as opposed to being an EGS exclusive. Surprisingly, Tim Sweeney had a reply.
– Tim Sweeney says Alan Wake 2 will not be released on Steam, even after more than a year on EGS and not turning a profit for either Epic Games or Remedy (although as of the last financial release, it has ALMOST broken even despite winning many Game of the Year awards and being a massive critical success). Many observers think if the game were on Steam, it would have turned a profit. Alan Wake Remastered is also an EGS exclusive (the original game, its DLC, and spinoff/non-canon game Alan Wake’s American Nightmare are on Steam).
– Remedy will no longer partner with Epic Games on releases, instead reaching a contract with Annapurna Entertainment (Megan Ellison’s company, and probably mostly funded by her Super MAGA father Larry Ellison of Oracle fame) to develop Control 2, as well as develop TV/film adaptations for both Alan Wake and Control/the Remedy Universe. Remedy will self-publish their games moving forward.
– OP Note: Fan should have asked Tim Sweeney if someone at Epic wanted to publish Alan Wake 2 because Epic Games is located in Wake County and thought it was mildly funny.
– Remedy in 2025 is releasing a spinoff co-op multiplayer game of Control called FBC: Firebreak which will be available on Steam and will be mid-priced. Control 2 will be moving into full production soon after the Max Payne remake for Rockstar is released and will be an RPG (for some reason…).
– Many gaming fans refuse to install Epic Games Store due to its user unfriendliness, Epic Games’ sleazy tactics, and apparently some people say it’s spyware so IDK – people don’t like Epic and its tactics of luring companies into predatory publishing contracts.

Do you buy any games from the Epic Games Store or do you just download the free games they hand out trying to unsuccessfully lure you away from Steam? Maybe if EGS was more user friendly and didn’t randomly try and install a game when you try and read more info about it… Also, have you played Alan Wake/Control? Do you have Herald of Darkness or Dynamite on your playlist?
