Michelle Obama is focusing her attention on what matters to her on the day that Donald Trump is returning to the White House.
The 61-year-old former First Lady and wife of former President Barack Obama will not be attending the president elect’s inauguration alongside her husband on Monday (January 20).
As most of Washington, DC and the world at large focused on the event, she took to social media to share a statement about the importance of Martin Luther King Day, which is also being celebrated today.

“Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service always inspires me,” Michelle captioned a post that she shared on Instagram. “This #MLKDay, I hope you’ll join me and @WhenWeAllVote in honoring Dr. King’s life and legacy by getting involved in your community.”
She continued, writing, “Whether you’re mentoring students at your local school or volunteering for a cause that matters to you, it all helps make a difference. Tell me how you’re giving back today in the comments.”
Michelle paired her thoughts with a photo of Martin Luther King and a quote of his – “The time is always right to do what is right.”
