Taylor Swift‘s Watch Hill, Rhode Island, mansion appears to be getting a makeover, with construction apparatus seen on the property.
A fan shared a video to TikTok on January 10, showing what appeared to be a newer room on the second floor with new siding as well. It was taken from just past the seawall next to the home’s private beach.
Over the video, user biggie.slime wrote, “Construction on Taylor Swift’s house in RI,” and asked in the caption, “Anyone know what she’s doing?”
One user said that Taylor, 35, was doing “a kitchen remodel, enlarging a bedroom suite by turning the current bedroom into a bathroom/lounge and re-adding the bedroom with an additional 400 sq. feet,” according to public permit building records.
Fans had plenty of guesses in the comments. “Building that nursery,” one wrote, amid speculation Taylor wants to start a family with boyfriend Travis Kelce. Another person added, “A baby wing!”
Others guessed that it might be a recording studio, while another wrote “Wedding prep” with a fingers crossed emoji.
Taylor purchased the 11,000-square-foot estate in 2013, paying $17.75 million in a reportedly all-cash deal. At the time she bought it, the mansion featured eight fireplaces and 10 bathrooms, a huge backyard patio and a giant pool.
The house sits on sits on 5.23 acres of land and is the highest point in Watch Hill. The home also has 700 feet of private beach.
Taylor primarily uses the house as a summer getaway spot. The “Anti-Hero” singer has made it iconic thanks to her annual 4th of July parties she holds at the estate.
The Grammy winner’s 2014 party included celebrity pals such as Emma Stone, Jessica Szohr and Lena Dunham. In 2015, Taylor’s friends circle had extended even wider thanks to pals she added throughout the course of making music videos and attending awards shows following the October 2014 release of her first purely pop album, 1989.
Models Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Martha Hunt and singer Ed Sheeran all attended what has become known as “Taymerica” in 2015. For Taylor’s 4th of July party in 2016, she was joined by then-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston, Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds, Karlie, 32, Gigi, 29, Ed, 33, and Cara Delevingne. Tom, 43, famously appeared in photos splashing around the ocean wearing an “I Heart T.S.” T-shirt. While the pair called it quits in two months later, his presence has lived on in photos from the epic bash.
In the years Taylor dated Joe Alwyn from 2017 through 2023, she seemingly stopped holding her annual parties amid their highly private relationship. The duo broke up in April 2023 after six years of dating.
After their split, the party was back on. “Happy belated Independence Day from your local neighborhood independent girlies,” Taylor captioned a series of photos from her party in July 2023 that included Selena Gomez and the Haim sisters. The “Cardigan” singer didn’t have a celebration in July 2024, as she was away in Europe for her Eras tour.
Travis, 35, got to enjoy his girlfriend’s Rhode Island mansion in late August 2024, when Taylor through a celebrity-filled celebration weekend for close pal Blake’s 37th birthday. In attendance was Ryan, 48, Travis’ brother Jason Kelce, and his wife, Kylie Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, as well as Taylor’s bestie Gigi and her boyfriend, Bradly Cooper.
