Actor Nicholas Hoult shared details about an extraordinary gift from director Robert Eggers following the completion of Nosferatu. During a recent Elle video interview, the actor disclosed that Eggers sent him the anatomically explicit prosthetic Bill Skarsgård wore in his portrayal of the vampire Count Orlok, commemorating their collaboration on the highly anticipated horror film.

“I have Count Orlok’s prosthetic penis framed at home,” Hoult told his costar, Lily-Rose Depp. “There’s a scene where Bill Skarsgård is slurping my blood, and Robert Eggers asked, ‘How was that for you?’ … And I said, ‘I could feel his prosthetic penis on my leg.’”

The story takes an amusing turn when Hoult describes the gift’s arrival. “Rob got it framed and sent to my house,” he recalled. “But the frame had broken when it got there, so I had to take it to a local frame shop, and I had to be like, ‘Hey, dude, can you fix this?’”

The interaction with the framer proved particularly entertaining. According to Hoult, while the craftsman initially seemed unfazed, the reality of the situation eventually dawned on him. “He kind of didn’t even blink the first time, and then when I went back to pick it up, I think he had clocked how weird it was — what I was framing, potentially, like, this vampire penis?” Hoult said. “And he was like, ‘Is this some kind of collector’s piece?’” Hoult added, “I was like, ‘Yeah, you could say that.’”

In Eggers’ reimagining of the classic silent horror film, Hoult, now 35, portrays Thomas Hutter, an unfortunate estate agent tasked with assisting Count Orlok (Skarsgård) in acquiring property in his town.

Hoult, Depp, and Skarsgard star alongside Willem Dafoe, Emma Corrin, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in this year’s take on Nosferatu, which tells a gothic tale of obsession between Depp’s haunted young woman and Skarsgard’s terrifying vampire who’s infatuated with her, per the logline.

Nosferatu arrives in theaters on Dec. 24. Watch Hoult talk about the prosthetic in the clip above.
