    Karla Sofia Gascon Lands Starring Role in Trans Fairy Tale After Historic Golden Globes Nomination

    Emilia Perez actress Karla Sofia Gascon lined up her next big role after making history with her Golden Globes nomination.

    The 52-year-old actress became the first openly trans star to be recognized in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Musical of Comedy category when the nominations were unveiled earlier this month.

    She is now set to join the cast of a forthcoming Spanish movie called Las Malas.

    According to reporting by The Hollywood Reporter, Karla is set to play the character Aunt Encarna, who is described as “a tough but motherly leader of a group of trans sex workers, whose routine is upset when she finds an abandoned baby and decides to adopt him without realizing she is putting everyone around her in danger.”

    The movie is based on Camila Sosa Villada‘s fairy tale novel Bad Girls and will be directed by Armando Bo.

    Several of Karla‘s Emilia Perez costars were also recognized by the Golden Globes.
