On its second weekend in theaters, Moana 2 took the top spot at the box office, bringing in $52 million. It did drop by 63% from its first weekend gross, but it’s already grossed $600 million globally.
Y2K was the only new film in wide release, in over 2,000 theaters, and it fared very poorly with a $2.1 million take. It also didn’t go over well with critics or audiences, getting a C- CinemaScore.
Wicked took second place with $34.8 million in its third weekend, bringing it to the fourth biggest domestic release of 2024 with a $320 million total, and an additional $135 million internationally.
Gladiator II remained in third place with a $12.5 million haul, bringing its global take to $368 million. Behind it was Red One, with $7 million.
In fifth place was Pushpa: The Rule Part 2, a Telugu-language action-thriller sequel, with $5.5 million.
In sixth place, the Interstellar re-release pulled in $4.4 million from just 165 IMAX screens. In the 10 IMAX theaters that showed it in 70mm, it was completely sold out the whole weekend.
