Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals! ‘Tis the season to watch Home Alone and its sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. While many fans know that Macaulay Culkin got his big break in the film series as Kevin McCallister, he’s not the only actor who has Home Alone to thank for their fame. Devin Ratray, who played Kevin’s older brother Buzz McCallister (and delivered iconic lines such as, “I’m going to feed you to my tarantula”), was just 13 years old when he starred in the first Home Alone. The movies launched Devin into a successful acting career that lasted well into his adulthood.

What Happened to Devin Ratray After ‘Home Alone’?

Devin starred in Home Alone in 1990 and returned for Lost in New York in 1992. Years later, he reprised his Buzz McCallister role in 2021’s Home Alone 6, titled Home Sweet Home Alone. The film saw Kevin’s brother all grown up and working as a local police officer.

Outside of the Home Alone franchise, Devin landed roles in dozens of films like Dennis the Menace (1993), The Prince and Me (2004) and R.I.P.D. (2013). He also appeared in multiple television shows, including 2017’s Mosaic and The Tick. Additionally, Devin did motion capture and voiced pedestrians for the 2018 video game Red Dead Redemption 2.

Devin’s latest acting roles were in 2022, having appeared in an episode of Better Call Saul and the film Kimi.

Why Was ‘Home Alone’ Star Devin Ratray Arrested?

Devin was arrested in December 2021 after he allegedly strangled his then-girlfriend while in a hotel room in Oklahoma. He was booked for felony domestic assault and battery by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault and battery, TMZ reported at the time. The actor was released on a $25,000 bond.

The woman had told police that she and Devin got into an argument at a bar. Upon returning to their hotel room, Devin allegedly pinned his then-girlfriend to the bed and began choking her as he told her, “This is how you die,” the outlet reported. Devin then allegedly stopped strangling the woman and punched her in the face before she ran out of the room.

In February 2024, Devin pleaded guilty to one count of domestic assault and battery by strangulation and another count of domestic assault and battery, according to court documents obtained by People. He was ordered to take behavior intervention plan classes and undergo a drug and alcohol assessment. Devin was also ordered not to have contact with the woman he was accused of assaulting.

In August 2022, police announced that they were investigating a 2017 rape allegation made against Devin by a woman named Lisa Smith. The woman had initially filed a police report about her alleged rape in 2017, but she never received any follow-ups. She reached out to the police about the report again after hearing about Devin’s 2021 arrest.

Lisa claimed that she had been friends with Devin for 15 years when he allegedly drugged her drink and raped her. Devin has not been charged in connection to Lisa’s allegations, and he denied the accusations in a phone call with CNN. “We did not have sex,” he said.

Was Home Alone’s Devin Ratray Hospitalized?

Devin’s domestic violence trial was initially delayed due to the actor being hospitalized for an undisclosed reason in January 2024. His lawyers told the judge at the time that he had been in “critical condition,” according to TMZ. However, a family member later told the outlet that Devin was released from the hospital and “back home resting on doctor’s orders.”

They did not elaborate on the timeline of the health scare or Devin’s medical issue.

Where Is Home Alone’s Devin Ratray Now?

Devin reportedly still lives in his birthplace of New York City as of 2024. While he has stepped away from the acting world, he continues to post life updates on his Instagram account. The NYC native also often remembers his big break in Home Alone via throwback photos.

“Coming home off the plane from shooting Home Alone,” he captioned a headshot shared on August 16, 2024. “Just turned 13.”

Devin later shared a photo from the first Home Alone movie on September 11, 2024, adding the caption, “Throwback Wednesday.”
