Jennifer Garner has been urging husband-in-waiting John Miller, who mostly works as an investor these days, to be more ambitious and socially active – but a source exclusively tells Life & Style he’s just as keen for her to chill out and cut loose instead of taking life so ultra seriously.
“Is Jen a little bit uptight and ‘Type A’ about everything she has to get done in a day? Sure, but most would argue that’s one of her best qualities, and why she lives up to her reputation as one of the most involved and serious moms in Hollywood,” a pal close to the actress explains.
“The relationship with John came about because he is pretty much the opposite of Ben Affleck. He’s a relaxed guy with nothing to prove, not a giant ball of stress with a chip on his shoulder like Ben can be on his worst days,” the source adds.
Even though the 13 Going on 30 star, 52, divorced Ben, 52, in 2018, the two have remained on good terms to coparent their three children: Violet, Fin and Samuel. Following the Gone Girl actor’s dramatic public split from latest wife Jennifer Lopez, Jen proved to be an especially welcoming shoulder for her ex husband to cry on.
As a second source previously told Life & Style, “John has shown incredible patience,” with Jen and her ex, “and that he’s really endeared him to Jennifer.”
While that source said, “Privately, [John] has been known to find it a little bit intimidating that she’s still so close to Ben, especially when he’s reminded about their red-hot connection back in the day,” the Elektra star has been standing firmly alongside her new beau, even as she deals with her ex’s drama.
“He was exactly what Jen needed at the time,” the first source adds, “and he’s been totally loyal to her, but it all comes back to how highly strung and intensely focused she can be about anything she puts her mind to.”
With the couple on the verge of taking their relationship to the next level, the insider says it’s a matter of the two personalities finding a happy middle ground as it relates to a hectic Hollywood schedule.
“John does have a tricky line to walk here between lightening Jen’s load and making her life easier while also letting her follow her intense ambitions, like filming a heavy duty action role as a woman over fifty, which she just did this past year on Deadpool & Wolverine, to universal acclaim, in fact.”
There was some speculation that Jen and her ex Ben may be reheating their old romance, and the source assures that, because John and the Alias actress may be very different people, they’re going to have to work hard to make their relationship work.
“The reason some folks don’t see this relationship going the distance is because of John and Jen’s wildly different personalities, but also Jen’s willingness to give everything she has to following her dreams. John just doesn’t have that DNA in him, and it’s always going to make common ground between him and Jen elusive.”
