Charlize Theron took the plunge — with her neckline, that is! On November 7, the Atomic Blonde star stunned in a low-cut, corseted Schiaparelli gown at the Baby2Baby Gala in L.A., where she was honored for her work promoting LGBTQ+ rights and preventing gender-based violence.
While the internet is full of advice for the way women of a certain age should dress, it ’s clear that Charlize, who hits the big 5-0 in 2025, is set on carving her own sartorial path — just as she has with everything else in her life.
“Charlize has always followed her own beat — from her career to her thoughts on marriage and aging in Hollywood,” says an insider. “She is happy with the life she has created for herself, and as she is approaching her milestone 50th birthday, she is telling friends her life feels complete.”
The Oscar winner finds her greatest joy with her two adopted daughters, Jackson, 11, and August, 9, even if she admits, “It’s a lot of girl in our house.”
Says the insider: “Spending time with the kids, her mother and friends — that is Charlize’s happy place.”
Though her youngest once told Charlize that she needed a “boyfriend” to round out the picture, the actress balks at the notion. “If you are not in a relationship, somehow you’re a failure,” Charlize — who was last romantically linked to model Alex Dimitrijevic in 2023 — has said of what’s deemed “socially acceptable.” “Those are … constructs that we need to change.”
Rather than cast a wide net for Mr. Right, says the insider, she’s built a “small circle” of trusted confidants: “Occasionally she’ll enjoy a night out with pals and a few cocktails, but Charlize is largely a homebody.”
Because she has three decades of making movies under her stylish belt, Charlize doesn’t feel it’s essential to jump on every project that comes her way, either. According to the insider, she will only take on things she is really passionate about these days.
“She has accomplished so many of her career goals as an actor, so she is able to focus on the charity work that makes her life feel most meaningful,” says the insider. “She has literally done it all, and now she has found the right balance that works for her.”
Her top priority at the moment? Being the best example she can be for Jackson and August. “ It’s something she prides herself on,” says the insider. “She wants to empower them.”
