The star-studded 2024 LACMA Art+Film Gala lit up Los Angeles on Saturday night, drawing a dazzling array of celebrities from the film, TV, music, and art worlds. This 13th annual event, presented by Gucci, was a feast for the eyes and a celebration of creativity.
Picture this: Kim Kardashian, adorned with Princess Diana’s jewels she snagged at an auction, rubbing shoulders with the evening’s co-chairs, Leonardo DiCaprio and Eva Chow. The guest list read like a who’s who of Hollywood, including Colman Domingo, Rowoon, Blake Lively, and Ricky Martin, to name just a few.
But it wasn’t just about the glitz and glamour. The gala honored two remarkable individuals: filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and sculptor Simone Leigh. Anna Wintour presented Luhrmann with the film award, while attorney and social justice advocate Brian Stevenson bestowed the art award upon Leigh.
Luhrmann, visibly moved, shared, “I am shaking a bit actually. In fact, I’m a little bit crying inside.” His words resonated with the crowd as he later added, “Whether it’s music or fashion or theater or art or film, there are no silos. In the end, all creative people are trying to do is to express themselves, reach out and touch people. So these silos, these borders between them, they are meaningless.”
The night crescendoed with a performance by Charli XCX, featuring a surprise appearance by her Sweat tour partner Troye Sivan. Talk about ending on a high note!
Gucci, the event’s sponsor, used the occasion to unveil Gucci Notte, Sabato De Sarno‘s second eveningwear collection. The festivities kicked off with celebs striking poses at LACMA’s iconic Urban Light installation on Wilshire Boulevard. After cocktails, guests indulged in a dinner prepared by Chef David Shim of Simon Kim’s Cote New York, the first and only Michelin-starred Korean steakhouse in the U.S.
