Lizzo is going through a radical lifestyle change to lose weight and get healthy. However, it’s a minute-by-minute challenge that leaves her defeated at times, especially when she finds herself veering off track, a source exclusively tells Life & Style.

“She’s trying to lose weight to save her life and is determined to drop some pounds. She realizes if she doesn’t do this, she could very well wind up dead,” the insider says. “She doesn’t want to end up with diabetes and other health problems either, that would make life miserable.”

However, the source adds that Lizzo, 36, finds it a “struggle” every day to “stick to the portion control and stay away from the chips and soda and desserts that she loves.”

“She’ll be doing good for a while and then she’ll read a negative comment and want a pint of ice cream to soothe her hurt feelings,” the insider continues. “She could do without all the haters. Losing weight is hard enough without the nasty comments that come her way. That said, she has a lot of friends who are rooting for her and that’s helped to take the sting out.”

The “Good as Hell” singer (real name: Melissa Jefferson) recently took to TikTok with a candid video about a “bad day” amid her weight loss journey. In the September 30 clip, Lizzo showed off her outfit of the day — a dress designed to look like a long-sleeved black and red striped T-shirt layered under a short-sleeved white and black striped tee with a patterned denim skirt sticking out at the bottom. She completed the edgy look with lace-up boots, hoop earrings and her hair styled in space buns.

However, Lizzo’s somber expression gave the video a more serious mood. Text added over the clip read, “I overate yesterday and I’m feeling really bad about it. I’m trying to remind myself that my body needed that nourishment. And if my body deserves comfort then my brain deserves comfort too.”

Lizzo set the video to the motivational sound featuring the words, “You did good today. Really good. You might not see it, you might think it was just another day, but it wasn’t. Every step you took today was a step forward, no matter how small.”

Finally, in the caption, the Yitty founder wrote, “If you’re going through this ur not alone.”

A source exclusively told Life & Style on September 5 that Lizzo, who has always been a champion of body positivity, had lost more than 60 pounds. She’s become dedicated to showing fans both the good and the bad aspects of her journey on social media.

In an effort to stay transparent with her fans, Lizzo shared a “What I Eat in a Day” update on Thursday, October 10, revealing that her diet had changed. “What I eat in a day as a former vegan who added protein to her diet,” she said in the Instagram video. Lizzo explained that she was reintroduced to protein in Japan while drinking lemon water. The “Truth Hurts” songstress then showed a plate of egg white cups, cauliflower hashbrowns and fruit.

Lizzo called the Japanese diet “one of the healthiest diets in the world and it has some of my favorite foods.” She said she was “in awe of how clean and delicious their food was” after her recent travels to the country. The Grammy winner “indulged in fresh sushi, fluffy egg and I was amazed at how good my body felt the next day.”

Throughout the video, the singer showed herself eating a buffalo chicken lettuce wrap, grilled chicken with asparagus and carrots, okra water, homemade peach tea and more.

Though Lizzo said she does “believe the vegan diet is the healthiest diet,” noting that this is what “helped me reach my goals and helped me feel good in my body” until this point, the protein diet led her to “have more energy, lose weight and helped with my mental fog.”
