A day after Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest banned 16-time competitive hot dog-eating champion Joey Chestnut for signing a deal with Impossible Foods, Netflix announced that they will be live-streaming a hot dog-eating contest between Chestnut and 6-time winning champion Kobayashi (who hasn’t competed in the Nathan’s contest since 2010 when they also discouraged him from participating in other eating competitions) on September 2 titled Chestnut vs Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef.
The two are fierce rivals with their last head to head competition being in 2009. Though Kobayashi had cited in a recent documentary that he was retiring from eating competitions, he will make an exception for this event. “Retiring for me will only happen after I take him down one last time. This rivalry has been brewing for a long time. Competing against Joey live on Netflix means fans all over the world can watch me knock him out.”
