āEvery generation deserves a megastar boyband and I donāt think there has been one to have the success of One Direction in over 14 years. The industry tends to focus on solo artists ā so it usually takes someone from outside to put a group together,ā Cowell shared in a statement.
The judge will be holding auditions to put together the next big boy band, and the process will be filmed for a āpotential documentary seriesā produced with Box to Box Films, according to Rolling Stone.
āThereās always a high degree of risk, and I genuinely have no idea whatās going to happen! We might uncover an incredible group; we might not get there,ā he shared. āWhat if no one shows up to auditions? That could be awkward. There is no guaranteed path to success ā anything can happen, but thatās whatās exciting for me, and thatās why Iām doing this.ā
Auditions will begin in England next month in Newcastle, Dublin, Liverpool and London. There is no streaming service yet attached to the upcoming potential docuseries.
It should be noted, Nicole Scherzinger is the one who actually put One Direction together.
