– After years of lobbying, Reggie Bush is getting his Heisman back. In the years following his 2005 Heisman win with the then second most first-place votes ever*, the NCAA started looking into whether he and his family got improper gifts while at USC. This never, ever happened to anyone else at any other schools, nope.
– In 2007, a few months after he started dating Kim Kardashian, a man who claimed to have given Bush’s family cash and cars filed suit and agreed to cooperate with the NCAA’s investigation into USC Trojans’ athletics. In 2010, the NCAA found that he had accepted improper gifts, stripped wins from USC, and forced them to disassociate with Bush. Bush returned his Heisman before the Heisman Trust asked for it back.
– After the NCAA instituted the NIL system, allowing college players to be compensated, Last yeah, USC and Reggie Bush lobbied for his reinstatement, but the NCAA said they wouldn’t review former infractions, and that the rules still prohibit pay-for-play transactions. Bush then sued the increasingly broke NCAA for defamation because he never engaged in pay-for-play. And now Reggie Bush is suddenly getting his trophy back!
*Fun fact: The number one vote getter never lost his trophy.
