A woman who became a writer because an ex dumped her for one writes about her marriage to an older man and how it’s better than the same-age relationships her friends have.
(Shoutout to picturemegone who reminded me that the viral article about the financial-advice columnist who got scammed out of $50k was also from The Cut).
It’s a lot, like she somehow thinks that by having kids an older man that he’ll step up and be a better parent than a same-age partner because somehow age makes men better. There’s a vague sprinkling of shaming other women and some weirdness about feminism among all the purple prose and tone deafness.
My husband isn’t my partner. He’s my mentor, my lover, and, only in certain contexts, my friend. I’ll never forget it, how he showed me around our first place like he was introducing me to myself: This is the wine you’ll drink, where you’ll keep your clothes, we vacation here, this is the other language we’ll speak, you’ll learn it, and I did.
tl;dr – marry an older man except in her case it’s actually marry a rich man, lbr.
