Karolina Shiino, a naturalised Japanese model from Ukraine who has lived in the country for 20 years, has been declared the new 2024 miss Japan.
Criticism has sprouted swiftly among social media users by claiming that she does not portray Japanese beauty, represented by the concept of Yamato Nadeshiko, while others have shown support to the newly crowned miss. Shiino has stated that the Japanese spirit does not manifest itself on the body alone, but in the soul and hopes to be a good representative of the country.
