Rumours have been going around that Millie Gibson, who recently debuted as Ruby Sunday on Doctor Who, will only be the main companion for the upcoming 2024 season. The second season of Ncuti Gatwa’s run as the Doctor (which is filming currently) will reportedly feature Gibson in a reduced role, while Varada Sethu will take over as full-time companion. Fellow Andor fans may recognize Sethu from her role as Cinta Kaz on that show.
The Mirror, the UK tabloid which first ran the story, also alleged that Gibson was fired. They do not suggest why she was reportedly dropped. The Daily Mail (everyone take a moment to boo) claimed in an article that Gibson was a “diva” on set.
It should be noted that a one season run for a companion is not out of the ordinary. Additionally, Ncuti Gatwa posted an IG story of himself and Gibson with a heart emoji shortly after the news dropped. A screenshot can be found under the cut.
The BBC has so far not addressed any part of the story.

varada would be a great choice for next companion (she, millie, and ncuti all follow each other on IG for what it’s worth), but saying millie was dropped feels like blatant sensationalizing, and also never trust the daily mail
